Carefully raised young hens from our New Hampshire farm. 
We raise a limited number of started pullets each season from the same thoughtfully selected breeding lines used throughout our hatchery program. These young hens are raised beyond the fragile chick stage and offered to customers looking for healthy, well-started birds for their backyard flock, homestead, or small farm. Our focus remains on strong genetics, hardiness, beautiful egg colors, and birds that thrive in New England conditions. 
 
Why Choose Started Pullets?
Started pullets offer many of the benefits of raising your own flock without the challenges of brooding day-old chicks. They have already made it through the most vulnerable stages of life and are well on their way to becoming productive laying hens. 
Skip the brooder stage. 
Avoid heat lamps / heat plates and chick supplies. 
Raised on our farm with careful attention to health, nutrition and development. 
Selected from our colorful egg-laying and heritage breeding lines. 
 
What to Expect 
While we do offer older pullets and hens that are closer to laying at various times throughout the season, these are specifically hatched for you to be 6-8 weeks old and off of supplemental heat at the time you pick them up. They will require additional growing time before producing eggs. 
Because every bird develops at its own pace, we cannot guarantee an exact age at first lay. 
 
Reservation Information
Started pullets are available for pre-order in Spring and Summer so I have enough lead-time to hatch them for you and raise them to be 6-8 weeks old by late Summer / Fall. Pre-ordering allows us to plan grow-out groups and pens and gives customers the best selection. 
A reservation and deposit secures your place in line for future availability. Breed selections, feather colors, feather type (frizzles are able to be requested as well as fibro mixes), and egg colors may vary depending on the breeding group and hatch.
